My story is about my student. When I first met him, he was quietly sitting in the corner of the classroom; while every other student was interacting with me. I was later told about him, by the previous class teachers, that the child is disobedient and doesn’t talk much or answers in the class.

After a couple of days of observing him, I realized that he is a kid with special needs. Based on this observation, I asked his parents to get some evaluations done. Until then he was always pressurized to learn, interact and participate in the class – both by his teachers and his parents, which of course worsened the matter. Evaluations were positive and he was diagnosed with autism. There isn’t much awareness amongst people regarding autism and I am glad that I could play, even if a very tiny role, in helping a child and his parents by bringing it to their attention. The child is now of course getting the therapy which he deserves for a better life, but I know that these incidences are common as at times it’s hard to tell whether your child is autistic or not. So, my story – as you may call it – is all about changing a child’s life and I wish I can do more work and help more children with special needs.
