In early hours of the morning on 4th Feb 2008, four masked and armed robbers entered my house by breaking the grill. Bolting all the other rooms from outside, they entered in my room. As the sound awakened me, one of the robbers came and sat near me with a knife in his hand. After ransacking my room the miscreants moved to enter another room. A little later I seized the opportunity and started screaming.

The robbers started hitting me with an iron-rod and sticks on my head, which severely injured me. Undeterred, I struggled with them and opened the bolt of my parent’s room. As my parents rushed out, the robbers started fleeing. I and my parents tried to catch them, but they fled by injuring my parents in that process. Hearing our screams, neighbors came out gathered to help. However, despite the attempts by my family and our neighbors to catch them, 3 robbers fled under cover of darkness.

Luckily, we were able to nab one of them and we handed him over to the police. Following which, later the cops were able to arrest the other three robbers too. I got a severe head injury and was admitted in the hospital for 8 days with 12 stitches in my head. Later I received so many for bravery awards including district, state and the most important being the national award – “National Bravery Awards 2008” by the Vice President of India.
